The trouble is that it's an invasive idea,
by design. Every action is supposed to age the sims with this update so that instead of progress the consequence of playing now is decline. I think they've misjudged with this one. Maybe we can dodge the effects (it'll cost us no doubt) but the ethos has changed.
There are fabby things on offer in this update but the delivery system is going to alienate a lot of players. It surely was possible to conceive ways to unlock the great new environments, the scuba diving and all that -- and to make us pay through the nose

, without the fatalities. At least it makes sense now why the seniors look on their last legs
I don't know if I'm reading your post the way it's intended, apologies if not, but please don't put words in my mouth. Never once did I say I "liked" death. I just see it as a game, nothing more and nothing less...not my fault other people take it to seriously, and of course there's nothing wrong with taking it seriously, people play for different reasons which is what makes 'The Sims' such a personal experience
I do agree, they should've clearly added an option to turn turn it off:( But clearly though what they want to happen, will more than likely happen, as you yourself said "For once, I wouldn't mind paying. Anything to cheat Death."
I'm interested too in what other ways we can "pause" the aging process and I guess the Life Orbs are essentially a fourth currency
I just don't know how people get so worked up over a game, well update, they haven't tried yet FireMonkeys *shrugs*. Well ok, I guess I can when people have spent their hard earned money on it.
You make great points, MonkeyHandsLuke. I wanted to give you a little perspective on me as a player of SFP. I'm an escapist with the game - I guess that's how to explain it. I like to have fun with it, and my emotional investment is in the fun (probably no different than anybody here, but gosh, who knows.)
A few other people have mentioned - as they, like me, were having negative reactions - that in RL they were dealing with a parent dying of cancer, or the anniversary of a death, or, in my case, which I haven't mentioned before, the anniversary of my father's death which was the date this update info came out. I miss him a lot. Death in RL is so dramatic, to say the least. All things I know you know as well as anyone.

But I think RL experiences we are still processing can make us get angry with a change in the game that seems somehow a cheap shot. It's not meant that way, but it can be hard not to react.
So my negative reaction really was just that: the news of the update pushed my buttons big time. It took me a bit to figure that out, and now I'm back in "game mode" - especially as the anniversary is now passing, and so on. I suspect some of us might also be cancer survivors and/or other sorts of things in RL that open us up to being sensitive to certain changes in our fun, escapist game. I play no games in which I'd have to kill off a character to advance or in which I might die over and over again as I advance. To me: Just not fun. For others: Lots of fun. I hope this helps the conversation here. It's a great little community of SFP addicts.
Time for fun in the game, and just waiting to see what the update brings.
I'm really sorry to read that blackbrit, I feel bad now:( Which is why I think the one thing we can all agree on is that FireMonkeys messed up by not making the automatic aging optional, as opposed to mandatory! I just don't want people to prematurely delete the game and go from the community. I also don't want people to loose their favourite Sims and the stories they've created with them. They say they have other means to pause the aging, I only hope they haven't messed it up, for the people who done have a lot of LPs.
We have great members here and it would be a shame to loose them due to an update, which is why I suggested people try it first, and then we can start the lynching
I completely understand and respect the opinions of others, I don't want anyone to think I was being rude, I really wasn't. Even though I may not understand all the negativity, as I play mainly for fun, I still respect our different play styles and that people get attached to their Sims! I think it's really interesting how and why play the game, differently too, yet still here because we love the game! Which is what makes the community great and us all different:)
