High Cost of Items

Post by mockingbird288z »

I was curious to see how the prices of prizes have increased over time so I looked through the items from all the live events to see what the lowest price was and the highest price was and see what it revealed, if anything.

While I found it interesting to see and does show a general increase in prices I don't think this shows the extent of the increase in prices. I think we would need to see the average and the maybe the median, too. Just from looking at the prices it looks like this increase really became clear in the Chic Boutique event which you can't really see from just looking at the lowest and highest price. I think it just gets worse after the Chic Boutique event.

From this time last year, there is a clear difference. Makes me worry about playing the game going into the future. I'd hate to see a comparison from this year to next year!

Should keep this up for future reference, mockingbird! Another live event's coming up soon, and no doubt that we'll see more in the future. Thanks for this!

Looks like it started with Chic Boutique, but greatly accelerated with Celebrity Pet. How do they expect most players to buy these items? This really is getting out of hand. Thanks for the analysis- really something to think about.

I took a break from playing the sims for about one year and I have to admit that coming back to it I was shocked to see how much things cost. I now play it when there is an event just to make sure I get the prize. I used to enjoy playing around redecorating houses or building new ones on empty lots but now that is gone as the prices are too high. Someone mentioned a petition to complain about the prices and I think that is a great idea.

Thank you for taking the time to compile this list. This confirms what we have all been saying. I think that if someone were to compile a list of prices for online pack items, we would see a similar increase. I used to want to purchase all the things, but not anymore. The high prices have discouraged me (not to mention lots of almost, but not quite, identical items). There are a couple of packages in the online store right now that I want, but if I am limited in how I use the items after purchasing, what's the point?

I think EA wants to see just how far they can push the players. As a marketing device, it may backfire on them. I have already determined to buy no more furniture at the current home store prices. The only purchase I have made this month is Laura Craft.

I've started on getting the average cost. To make it easier I didn't include wallpapers, flooring, and roofs.

I did the first live event and the most recent new live event and two somewhere in the middle. I'll start doing the rest later. The Grand Garages one is insane.

Seeing the average cost doesn't make me feel any better. What happened to no prizes costing LPs and SPs?!

WOW!!! Between the two sets of numbers it shows how they have hiked the prices.

The averages may not look too bad but when you go back and then look at the highest price and compare them, that’s when sticker shock can kick in. The icky thing is how the average cost of the Simoleon items TRIPLED from the French Romance to the Kid’s Party and then went up MORE THAN TEN TIMES from Chic Boutique to Grand Garages!!! :o :x   That is just so WRONG and it’s super not fair to newer players.

I think that stopped with the Snow Problem quest.

I also kinda knew we were getting less and less items for each live event but I hadn't quite realized the extent. It would also be interesting to see how the resources required for these events correlate.
