It appears that a quest for the photography career just started for those who don't already have it.

As I already have the career heirloom I'm getting the task list from reddit. I will update it as it's updated on reddit.

It's an 18 part quest.

1. Take 5 pictures of decorations
2. Take 3 selfies with other sims
3. Start a friendly story
4. Earn 3 stars at a party
5. Earn 650 coins
6. Complete 3 relationship events
7. 8 hour event at the Cafe
8. Complete a career story chapter
9. 8 hour event at the Restaurant
10. Complete daily task list
11. 8 hour event at the Studio
12. Complete daily task list
13. Earn 20 Sim tickets
14. 8 hour event at the Cafe
15. Earn 20 Home tickets
16. 8 hour event at the Restaurant
17. Complete 2 hobby chapters
18. 8 hour event at the ______

Well, I'm glad they decided to make it available for people who didn't buy or win the heirloom.

They did say the photography career in the Asos event would be an "early" unlock. We just all assumed that when they were selling the heirloom for real money or 600 simcash that's what EA meant. I feel bad for the people who spent money/simcash on it, though.
