Baby Steps update: Adopting an infant

Post by +.jana.+ »

As it was already mentioned in the main thread for the Baby Steps update, there is an option to adopt an orphaned baby. However, I don't seem to find a way how to succeed.

Steps I did (iOS):
- Have an adult sim (half of a married couple) visit a house where an orphaned baby lives
- Have that adult sim pick up the baby and bring it back home
- Cuddle with the baby till they are good/best friends
- Tap the new option to adopt the baby

Result: Footsteps shown above the potential step-mom's head. :| However, the crib is in the middle of a room, and there are no sims/pets preventing the sim from accessing the crib. The same happens when the sim carries the baby - will just show the footsteps "error message" again.

Any ideas how to make the adoption work?

We've been able to adopt babies like this for awhile. I can do it on my iPad which is still on Great Outdoors and I remember telling someone about it on Facebook while on the Mall update. I have no clue why you are getting the footsteps, though. When you do it on older updates you bring the adult/senior sim to where the baby lives and I think you need an empty crib in the adult sim's home. Then after the adoption the baby automatically goes to the crib in the new parent's house. You could try it that way and see if it works.

Thanks Mockingbird, unfortunately this did not work. :(

I'm thinking whether the Nanny is interfering or what is happening there...

Hmm maybe it is a glitch. And with all the new baby interactions the adoption action got broken?

Has anyone been able to adopt a baby on the Baby Steps update?

I just tried without success. Adopting an infant seems to be broken.

What worked for you, Smootie_Pops? I wasn't able to get any infant adoption to work.

What device/OS are you using please? Do I understand correctly that you can adopt a baby even on the Baby Steps update?

I don't think the nanny hovering around everywhere is the problem. I get footsteps above the adult sim's head when I try to adopt too. I saved my game so I could reset afterwards, then used LP to finish the quest. Once the nanny left I tried again and still can't adopt an infant. :( I tried every way I could think of; adult asking baby, baby asking adult, at the adult's house, at baby's house. I even tried with the baby in the crib and with it on the floor. I hope they fix this. I have four babies left over from the baby glitch at one house and now that they're actually interesting to interact with I'd like to put them all with separate families.

Sounds like this is just one of the countless bugs we are experiencing with this update. :(

I hope they fix them soon...but not counting in it.
