I just got around to completing the show jumping gate in my 'messing around with houses' game and received 25LP for it! Is that new this update? Don't think I've been so please by a reward for completing a quest before

It is relatively new, seems to have started on the Christmas 2015 update.

Yes! It worked the first few times I tried to serenade, but now they only hover the guitar in front or behind by one space

Not sure if this is new or not, it's been a while since I've changed any of my pools. I just noticed that the Tropical Resort Pool Interior is free! And if you resize a pool with this interior, the cost is significantly reduced. Before changing the interior it would have been 72800 simoleons to expand just a tiny bit. After changing the interior it only cost 800!!

I had the same problem after updating the game. Reinstalling the game helped.

The Tropical Resort Pool tile has been free since the Baby Steps update.
