Does that mean all the Christmas stuff will disappear from our houses?? Or that we just can't buy anymore from the homestore? I would be very sad if they don't let us keep some holiday cheer after Jan 1!

If this Christmas update is like last year's then after the Holidays you get to keep any decorations you purchase but Holiday decorations will no longer be available in the store.

I have looked in the files myself in the past and it is not an easy task to make something useful of it.

This also make my decisions on my next sim easier. Didn't know if I should at another adult or give Mark and Pamela their kid.

The items in the home-store will disappear, not what you have in your inventory.
