I built one of the big houses with LP earlier this week and it just finished. I think it's the player designed home. Now that I got a good look at it, it has toys and stuff for kids. I want to move the Weasleys there with their new baby and their dog. I see the "relocate family" option when I click on the house, does that include their dog? I don't want to lose Chance.
Now that Charlie made Fire Captain and Katie made Mad Scientist, I think they can afford the bigger house on the big lot and get out of Charlie's bachelor starter house. I could make my starter house into an HFN for now.
Do I need to wait for everybody to be home from work, not occupied with any tasks and the baby to not be hibernating? Should I grow her up in the old house first so I don't have too may weird things going on, just a move? This new house is a good house, for a family with pre-teens, but I can modify that bedroom to a little kid's room without too much trouble. It also has a very nice dog house for Chance, compared to his current cardboard box type.
Don't want any "bugs" to eat any family members when they move!

Re: Family relocation question
I don't know about moving a baby, but everyone must be unoccupied before they can move. So IF you can move babies, I suppose the baby must also be unoccupied and can't be hibernating.
If you're worried about Chance, you can relocate it to another house and relocate it back when your family has moved. That's what I did when I moved a sim with a pet... like you, I totally didn't want any bugs to eat my family members! Sim Nation needs better pest control...
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer your question about the baby. I'm curious, too.

Re: Family relocation question
What I would do:
Very first step would be to save to the cloud manually
If the family lives in a 2-story house, have all members including pets downstairs. Put all stairs and beds and chairs (which cats like to use) from second floor and all pet stuff into my inventory.
Then I move the family.

Re: Family relocation question
Oh saving definitely. I'll give them all something to do for 2 minutes while I remove the doors so they can't get out? Then put all furniture in inventory. Maybe I should grow the baby up so she won't be using her crib. If they have to be unoccupied, the only option to get her crib empty is cuddle and then they will have to drop her on the floor if I take the crib out? That might be worth doing just to see what happens (Mommie Dearest persona manifesting itself there). I will see if I can relocate Chance to a friend's house temporarily. If I can't, I will try to move the whole family and if he gets lost or left behind, I'll restore my save and try again. Scary! Don't want them to disappear, they're my favorites.
Oliver just made Olympian. Maybe I will move him to the new skateboarder's house first to see how it goes. He's single and has no pets yet. Then if that goes OK, will save again and try the family move. Right now Oliver is keeping Uncle Lee company while he bakes the cake. Lee is my Tycoon and he dabbles in art for fun, so I had him skip work yesterday to start the cake. He's my lowest earner, since he piddles around doing other things to earn money, so figured he wouldn't mind baking the cake. But Mayor Theodore stayed over and gardened all night in Lee's yard, along with Amos. Now that they've gone to work, Oliver went over to keep him company (and garden some more!). Gotta earn enough $ to pay for all at these moving vans!

Re: Family relocation question
It costs to move them so my opinion is to SAVE, have the baby in toddler status and while they are unoccupied on one level, as ErinPW pointed out, relocate the whole family, them relocate the dog. I don't think it matters if they are outside. If you have someone without a pet you could, as suggested, temporarily move Chance to them, then when family is settled, move him back to his family. It doesn't cost to relocate pets. I am just stating opinion. I have relocated people and animals but never a baby. So i do not know for sure. I just think it might be dicey while in crib. You might want to wait and enjoy that phase first. Let your store get built. Then move the family. You know it takes time to close the real estate deals.
Also, the Player home does have a lot of nice toys and stuff. I never bought one but it looks like a good deal on toys. GOOD-LUCK!

Re: Family relocation question
LOL! I'll have to tell them it's taking a little longer to update their survey and title policy so they can't close today . I know all about delayed closings, happens at work every day (real life work!)

Re: Family relocation question
When you move a family, everyone has to be unoccupied. When you move everyone, the dog does move as well. The baby can be in his/her crib and that will move into an empty space in the house, baby and all. It works pretty easily. I moved my Smartt family over to a bigger house last week and had no problems whatsoever.

Re: Family relocation question
Thanks very much! Doing a little remodeling of the new house, then will save and see if I can move them. Will be sure to leave empty space for the crib! Will save first, then try normal relocation. If it goes badly, I'll download the save and try relocating Chance first (just like I do with real pets when moving, make sure they are secure so they don't run away in the confusion of movers and trucks!). If I can move Molly as a baby, that will be great, she's been hibernating since yesterday and will wake up in about an hour so I want to try to keep her a baby for a little while just to see what it's like, cuz she's the first one.

Re: Family relocation question
It's a great deal for toys. I built the house when I got the goal to have a toddler play with blocks (which cost 12 life points). I tweaked it a little and moved my core family into it. It was a very smooth move for everyone, even the dog.katgames wrote:It costs to move them so my opinion is to SAVE, have the baby in toddler status and while they are unoccupied on one level, as ErinPW pointed out, relocate the whole family, them relocate the dog. Re: Family relocation question
Success!! Chance stayed with the baby and when the house opened, they were both in the master bedroom. Chance was sitting right next to the cradle when they landed, he got up just as I took the pic. Charlie ended up in the room with the fireplace and Katie ended up in the room with the chess table. Chance is so happy, he's already dug up 3 treasures! He went right out to look at his new house (the pets are more autonomous than the people)
