It does look like it is amazing value, but with how long it is taking me to save up to 150k to be able to buy the swimming pool, (why does the cost increase by such a significant amount every time you purchase a new building? 100k going up to 150k is so much). It will take me forever to reach 850k.

Trying to decide if I want to build the two story mansion for $4.4 million, or build a designer home for 44 LP and stick a second story on it for Charlie's family. I like the fountain that comes with the designer home, not sure, even after looking at Horde Prime's list of items and the pre-made house pix if there is anythg special that you can't get any other way? Would it be more cost effective to build an LP house and then remodel it to be like the 2 story mansion?
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

The Designer Home (and one other, I think, which is escaping me right now) has a lovely fenced lot with outside benches by the street that our Sims like to use. I've built a couple of these just to collect the outdoor trellises before I could buy them, and for the fence with built in benches. I got this idea from Erin. :)

I like the fencing with benches enough that I sacrificed a beach view on a premium lot to get it. I removed everything down to the grass and am now building my woodworking farm on it. The resident woodworkers have moved in though the house is unfinished.

I also find this to be more cost effective right now.

I like the designer house on the premium lot, too. Cedrella lives in one (to which I added a second bedroom / bathroom for Cassiopeia). I like the fountain. I like the benches in the back, although I am not sure I would keep them for Charlie since I want a small diving pool for Katie and some forest land for a couple of reindeer.

Seems to me that if there is nothing super special about the 2 story mansion, it would be more cost effective to build a house I know I like to get the stuff out of it, then remodel it, add the second floor for only $1MM. Nothing says I can't build my own 2 story mansion on the lot, once it's available and I would be remodeling it anyway. Cost of second story and stairs is still less than $4MM and I can always add the pool later, which is the other big expense. Heck, I could take their current Player Designed House down to the grass and build there and I wouldn't have to wait 3 days. I moved them all back to the starter house this morning, since it is also my HFN, it has everything they will need for the next few days. Maybe start building the designer home on an empty lot and decide what to do with it later. I seem to be using my small lots as community lots and moving everybody to premium lots. Can't add another sim for 5 more levels, unless I adopt another one, but I unlocked another house lot this morning. Originally, I wanted one of every house, but I think it's silly to pay $4MM for a house, especially since the TV boost is only 1/3 of the cost. I could add 4 second stories to existing houses for what I have now. If the TV boost of the LP house is the same as the $4MM house, makes more sense to build LP houses and remodel them?

I noticed that many of the two story mansions have the costume chest for toddlers that usually must be purchased with real money. Does it come with the mansion, or have people just added it? I would love for my toddlers to have costumes, but I don't spend real money on the game.

You can get the costumes in the kids' store, too, I think. The difference is that, if they put on the costume from the chest, they act like whatever they are pretending to be and if they are wearing one from the store, they just walk around normally. I have the chest and whenever Molly or Kyle puts on a costume, they buzz around like bees, flapping their hands and stomp around like dinosaurs :)
