Today I had to buy a dogbone and now my goal is to change the roof of a house.
That 10-key box better be worth it.

And goals that require a preteen, teen or toddler.
I only have 1 teen at the moment and don't want to add any more kids. They're not productive enough.
"Buy this build that" goals are really annoying, there is no other way than do it or skip it :(

For preteen goals you can always check, whether your teen can do it. Like the diary goal or trampoline. Teens can do these tasks, but I don't know whether they count for the goals. Two toddler goals work with a preteen, so I would always try to complete the goal with the sims I have :)

Thanks for the tips.
I tried the goal with my teen but he couldn't call grandma on the phone.
I planning on having a toddler and a preteen but first I need to gain a level before I can add another sim.

There is a way around the goal to change a roof if you have a lot with no house on it. Simply go to the lot with no house, pick any style roof, and click on the green check mark. It will fulfill the goal and cost you zero simoleons. This also works with the goal to change the house exterior.

I use a lot with a swimming pool/ skating rink to do this.

That's a great tip! I have quoted this into the first post of Tips about goals

something funny:

phone option for teen is now similar to adult, and so they have the Call Mom option instead of Grandma (pre-teen)...

so yeah, Call Mom when Mommy is just next to the teen physically...

I seem to have had a influx of ridiculously long goals recently. I've normally unlocked the mystery box before now, but this week is taking forever!
So far this week, I have baked croissants, read the big book of stuff, planted strawberries, planted pumpkin, done an all-day session of ice hockey... and I'm sure there are others that I've forgotten. It also wanted me to have a Teen waste a day on the couch, but I had to skip that so they could practice their music!

Is it just bad luck, or is anyone else noticing long goals being more frequent?

Wow! You got a lot of them! I only had 3 really long ones - including the science project one for my teen, but I skipped it because she was making music. Most of mine were 12 hour things and 2 hour things and I got to skip a few for free because I already had 10 sims who were best friends with each other. I finished my key goal for the week last night and the teen idol thing late last night (after paying LP so I wouldn't have to wait until midnight for the 3 hour session to complete and trying to avoid the 3rd "backup vocals" repeated note).
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

This makes me all the more glad that I've set a sim to start baking goal related goods that take a long time to complete! I think I need to do the same with gardening projects!

One of my key tasks last week was to make a sim hibernate for a day. That one is so annoying because you get only a few §§§ for it and it takes the sim away from more productive activities! But you could be onto something, my current key task is to have a teen read epic fantasy, which I think takes 14 hours. I checked it yesterday but decided not to do it yet because my teen is spending her entire waking hours doing music and I don't want her to waste some of those hours finishing up a book! She can read when she's finished her teen idol quest
