Teenager back yard apartment?

Post by espressonist »

So, I only have two teens.

I just started a teen apartment area in the back or Darren & Owen Coltons house.

Anyone do anything similar? Would love suggestions.. I'm not building savvy like a lot of you!:)

I can't recall the address, but it's around the starter house area..

The yard is a mess ...will eventually improve it ... don't mind it if you visit. ..

I think I remember reading on the old EA forum someone with a granny-flat in the back of their beach house. It stands out in my mind because they called it a teen-granny-flat because of how they decorated it. Or something like that.

Anyway, I would wait a few days to fill it up with furniture. The update may have some items ideal for your teen apartment. And now, I'm thinking of maybe building one too. :)

One of the pre-made lots comes with a granny flat out the back. I turned mine into a kids and hobby area. One room had a working bench & fire hydrant, the large middle room I put the toddler toys & the 3rd room was like a chill out room for the pre-teens.

I built a simple kids' apartment for the family living in the skater house. There's a living room and two kids' rooms with the usual preteen stuff: beds, bookshelves, study desks and of course some mess! If they were toddlers, I would have turned the living room into a playroom with lots of toddler toys... but I would have still tried to fit a tv in because my sims use tv for parenting... a lot. Tsk tsk.

I'd like to add a toilet, but I'm not sure where to put it. They'll have to use the main house's toilet for now!

Some ideas:
- Maybe wait for the teen update, as SIMazing suggested?
- Add activity items your kids will most often use. For me it's tv, study desks, bookshelves, magazines, mpfree player, drawer for changing clothes. If there wasn't a foosball table in the main house, I would have tried to fit it in the kids' apartment. If they practice ballet or karate, maybe those items... well, at least the record player is small enough to fit. A big stereo, maybe, since you're after a teen apartment?
- Neo Tokyo furniture works well in a kids' house because it has a playful feel. But that's just my taste of course, yours might be different, and Neo Tokyo stuff simply happened to suit this family's casual style.
- Pet items if they have pets. Again, this is my personal taste, but I always tend to associate household pets with kids.

Here are some pictures of the house:

Overview. Don't look at the yard too closely, it's just a bunch of random items thrown together... I'm glad it's dark outside! :D

Mary Jane's room and the living room. Note the cute Neo Tokyo furniture! Unfortunately, the kids have adopted their parents' diet of pizza & coke, that's why there are empty pizza boxes everywhere... Maybe they need a fridge?

Sunny's room... it's a bit tidier than his sister's. (The guy using his desk is Mary Jane's friend Hans.) When I saw the Neo Tokyo bookshelf, I just knew I wanted it in a kid's room!

It was me on the other forum that had the teen granny flat and yes I know it's a total oxymoron.

It's just the beach house but redecorated. It'll be nice to have the new teen furniture.
