If by start over you mean, do you use up those 10 keys?, the answer is yes. I foolishly spent my first key the first week of the mystery box because I was curious, and I got...not much, especially since I didn't need another stainless steel fridge. I have since saved up 8 more keys, and this Thursday it will be nine. Next week on Dec. 19, I will finally be able to buy the fortune box, and it better be worth the wait!

I was curious about how the boxes hold up against one another and which I should get after diligently completing goals for ten long weeks. I did some poking around and calculations. Here are the results.
From the photos people have posted of the different Mystery Boxes, it looks like this is how the categories work: Standard: XP, simoleons, resources Common: simoleon items (probably also resources) Premium: LP, SP, resources Rare: premium-currency items, resources
Here are the boxes according to the Mystery Box Shop: Fortune Box, 10 keys: 10x standard, 12x premium, 2x rare Bounty Box, 5 keys: 6x standard, 4x premium, 1x rare Loot Box, 3 keys: 4x standard, 2x premium, 2x common Curiosity Box, 1 key: 3x standard, 1x common
For the equivalent of 10 keys spent on each type of box, you would get: Fortune Box: 10 standard, 12 premium, 2 rare Bounty Box: 12 standard, 8 premium, 2 rare Loot Box: 13 1/3 standard, 6 2/3 premium, 6 2/3 common Curiosity Box: 30 standard, 10 common
Hope this helps us compare the best box to go for based on personal needs. (I, for example, am most after “premium,” so I’m stuck waiting for the Fortune Box every time.)

Thank you! This will be helpful later, because after I get my first 10 key box, I can decide if I would rather just get a bounty box every 5 weeks. I am after XP and LP, don't really care about the rare items since eventually I will be able to get them anyway, assuming I work hard enough to earn the S, LP and SP I need.
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

I decided to go with the Fortune Box. My first try was good enough: §8,000, 10,5000 XP, 60 LP, 18 SP, a blue lounge chair, a skeleton light, and 3 common resources. Not too bad IMO.

Good job! I think I will look several times using the erase download but that's scary too. You did pretty terrific!

It's exactly like normal quests, but when you complete one, it's makes a progress bar fill up, and when it fills up all the way (100%) you get 1 key to open up a mystery box. The more keys you get, the better the box's contents are!
Anything is possible if you stride for it.
Well, almost anything...
Finally saved up and got my 10th key tonight.
So I opened the Fortune Box. I didn't do the save, repeat, thing... I am OK with what I got, although I am not sure if it was worth a 10 week wait (not a single magma ember!)
Here is what I got:
Simoleons - 3,000 / 3,500 / 2,000 = 8,500 total
XP - 2,000 / 1,500 / 1,500 / 2,000 / 2,500 = 9,500 total - I like this
LP - 6 / 8 / 5 / 5 / 5 / 5 / 6 = 40 is good, half a reindeer!
SP - 8 / 6 - not really using any SP now, have over 100 but saving them for redecorating houses
Bamboo - 2 (don't need those)
Limestone - 3 (don't need those either)
Igneous Rock - 3 (ditto)
Wind - 3 OK, I guess, would rather have had magma embers
"Rare" Items - 1 tan triple garden screen, 1 floral breeze fan (don't really care about those)
Not sure if it's worth it - I probably spent 40 LP skipping 24 hour goals over the last few weeks. I just won't do them. I also won't do the enemy type goals. Maybe if the resources were the rarer ones, it would be worth it, but I don't know if i will continue working for keys.
