How do I get gold bars?!

I have had sims fp since December 2011 and I used to go on all the time during the summer but since school has started I haven't gone on much. I have been updating the game though (when there is one). I am 95% done with mystery island and am dying to finish it (so I can do the coming of age quest). Only problem is, the last goal says I have to upgrade the monument thing to level two. I have enough granite and pick axes but I have 0/2 gold bars I've tried everything working,gardening,baking & doing random things but I haven't gotten a single gold bar. It's frustrating. Can someone please tell me how to get them.

The resources are random and as far as we can tell not related to any specific action. One resource from each monument is especially difficult to find ie. Gold, Pearls, Wind and Magma Embers whereas the others pop up fairly often. So the only way is to do enough actions to get them to show up. If you are getting frustrated (as we all have been), you might like to consider finishing up the quest with LPs. Then you can have fun with the new quest. Good luck!

I'm a total newbie, but I just thought I would share that the only ways I've achieved gold bars are through hobby activities and sleeping. I'm sure it's just random, but so far, that's how I've been able to acquire the gold. I wish they'd make it a little more balanced. I don't mind one resource for each monument being a bit more rare, but I think the way it is right now is kind of ridiculous! Aside from the timed quest at the beginning, I've decided to not really care about my monument restoration and just take it as it comes, because trying to get the resources is frustrating and I find it easier to not care one way or the other... Which I think is a serious design flaw--you should never create something in a game like this that the player wont care about. It was a major update and it should add a lot to the players' experiences. But that's just my humble opinion. Anyways, good luck and happy simming!

I totaly agree with all of this. I also don,t mind about the monuments anymore because it frustrates me that the recourses are to rare.

i get my rare resources from fashion design hobby. (e.g. magma embers and gold bars)

When your stuck and you want something your not getting I think having everyone do different things not particularly long term. Just get them all going all directions. Do things you do not typically do. Put a couple on long term things. Think about something your not done for a long time. But it IS totally random.

I think the best thing to do with resources, once you complete what you need to for the quest --is forget about it. It's pointless. It's designed to get you to spend LP. Well no, I'm not thanks. Besides I'm convinced the Bliss one is making my Sims run down quicker. Of course I'm a bit of a paranoid cat. But for me the whole resources thing just doesn't exist. If I could us build that turtle I would!

i got gold bars through sleeping and planting onions....for other resources i will tell u simple things which might help u in some way.there are two places where awards and prizes are kept in a cabinet..they are in community centre and swimming centre..take your sim to that place and click on the award cabinet..it will ask to admire..it takes 4 seconds to complete...repeat it as much as u can...i got many resources through this...hope it will help u all.reply if it helps u

I think it also helps to kick the trash can and then picking it up a few times. I did it a few times (I needed to send my sim to work with low hygiene) and I got gold bars

This is something I haven't done for a long, long time. I'll have to give it a try. You never know...

If the only obstacle to progressing in your game are those two resources, may I suggest you put your sims into hobbying and use the LPs they earn to skip the resource collection. It's a lot less frustrating than trying everything and still not getting the gold. That way, at least you can see what you are aiming for.
