Re: Resources?

Right now I have 50+ pick axe and granite and only 3 gold. I got the gold today after getting none yesterday (played for several hours too!)

I understand they would want these monuments to take a lot of time to build up, but it seems nearly impossible to acquire the resources sometimes! Did they intend for this to take years to complete? At least I finished the timed part of the quest, so I'm not too worried about when or if I'll ever finish the rest... but it does seem a bit ridiculous to me. I think they should make it a bit easier for casual players to make some progress. If a person only plays 2 hours a day, they should at least get one resource! And it shouldn't be that you can have a hundred of one type of resource and absolutely none of another. It just seems like this quest isn't particularly fun, and isn't that supposed to be why people would play the game--to have fun??

I agree. I'm not against the whole resources idea per se, but it seems a little too much to me.
It would be fine if all the resources were equally frequent, but like you said, I always have well over 200 Pickaxes but getting any Gold is always a struggle, and I always have to use LP to help out. It's the same with the other monuments; getting Essence of Water, Magma Embers or Pearls is considerably harder than the others.

It would also be fine if the monuments only went up level 5, or level 15 at the absolute maximum. But getting all four up to level 25 would take years for the casual player (as you said).

But I think the way to view the island is as one big bonus. You can completely ignore it if you like and it won't make any difference. You can still build houses, do regular goals and all the other stuff that you have always been able to do. The monuments are there is you want something more, but it isn't an integral part of the game that you absolutely have to do.

I'm glad to read this thread, I was getting so frustrated having an overflow of some resources but waiting for like the gold. It's so tempting to use lp's and have but trying to just take me time.

I'm not even lvl 40 yet only lvl 33, haven't even started working on the water one haha maybe by that time I'll have the others done.

I am also only at 33. I was thrilled that somewhere along the way last night or this morning I got 2 magma embers. I hear the alert sound, but I don't always see what resource made it happen. I have enough pick axes, rocks, bronze to complete through level 25 on 3 of the 4, but gold, magma embers and wind are making me crazy. I got a gold today when Rosmerta went over to Bazlit's closet to see if he had anything interesting to wear that she could borrow. I play about 4 hours a day total, before work, during lunch after dinner. I haven't seen a rare resource in days, and then I got 3 in the last 24 hours... Might be from the extra ghost hunting or something, but it is really a pain. I still have a small balance on my app card, but I sure don't want to waste any purchased LP on the monuments when I might need them for something else.

Update: just got gold from planting corn and it reminded me that I got some gold from corn the day before yesterday. I had 8 people planting corn, got 1 gold. Will try again tomorrow.
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

I found that no particular task yield any specific resource so the way I do it is by doing the shortest task possible over and over to maximize the chance of resources popping up.

Yeah, that why my Sims spend so much time raiding your wardrobe in your HFN. If I am going to make them dizzy looking for resources, they might as well get some decent XP for their 15 minutes of spinning to change clothes! :D

Knowing FM, the final mystery box has more chances of being full of bugs.

Nice one, animagif!. But sad, huh?

These latest updates have made me a different sort of player. Not so much fun. But you all keep it better, and happier.

I finished the ghost quest, but there wasn't anything I really wanted; happy to get 5 LP from ghost hunting now. Still haven't gotten a 5 LP set finished though. Resources schmee-sources.

My thought: when FM makes things random, there isn't a reason for me to "play." It's like the whole game is turning into the slot machine that is the LP plant. Boo.

Sorry to be such a downer. But, like Nandireya, I may go looking for Sims on the PC.
