Ya'll are too funny! I like to plant garlic at the Munsters or Draculas Castle or whatever this weeks name for my haunted house is. I amuse myself. Movie marathon, garlic are the long term way to go right now( until FM reads this and takes that away too) the febreze toilet at a high level monument neighbor got me three levels. Of course that's gone. Hey, that dancing at the nightclub is not bad for XP. 1 DJ and 9 dancers. Over and over. But that's short term like the hobbies. Gives a nice break from the hobbies though. My sims needed a little R&R. (:

Wait! What? It's a GAME??? Noooo! You mean my little people aren't real? I thought they were living in my iPad and they just such indecisive little guys that they need me to visit them to keep them busy and out of trouble.
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

You're doing things right.
In general, getting XP from actions is always a trade-off between the amount you get and the time you're willing to spend doing it (repeatedly).
For example, now that the Frebreeze options have gone, kicking over a Trashcan is theoretically the most efficient thing a single sim can do to get XP (7 per 2 seconds), so if you had the stamina to do it non-stop for a couple of hours, you'd have amassed a substantial amount. - Cleaning it up again afterwards is less efficient, but still good.
Getting a Preteen to play on a Slip and Slide or Feeding the Fish in a Acquarium are also very efficient tasks, but they're over in a just a few seconds and most people get bored repeatedly doing this for more than a couple of minutes or so.
Another good thing is making friends with new people, and if you've exhausted this within the people of your own town, you can go to a Neighbour's and make friends with everyone there.
So, it's really about finding the time you're willing to spend on tasks.
What I do (especially with my Preteens and probably Teens when I get some) is have them "Tan" on a towel. That takes 5 minutes but gives you more XP than many other tasks that take a lot longer. Even if you only do it two or three times an hour, it still works out better than doing longer tasks.
If you don't have the time to keep doing new actions every few minutes, then one of the most efficient ways to spend an hour is to either do "Tricks till Tomorrow" on a surfboard or "Super Slide" on a toboggan, both are available in the Snow Park only after you have got all the Figure Skating medals and unlocked the key to the lift. - Preteens can do this too.
Otherwise, what I do is plant Corn over and over again (20 minutes). It is a good way of getting both XP and Simoleans.
Making Apple Pie (40 mins) is also a good option for XP.
I seldom bother going to work or school because that's actually very inefficient.
Also, remember that Sims earn more XP if they are at their own home, and if they are "inspired".
Incidentally, the two new actions; "Bribe Ducks" and "Talk to a Tree" are the most inefficient actions in the game in terms of getting XP.

Re: Great way to make a lot of XP and resources
do sims really get more XP if they are working at home? I'm particularly curious about planting.

It doesn't apply to planting or cooking, no.Manderley wrote:do sims really get more XP if they are working at home? I'm particularly curious about planting.
For other actions though (household stuff), it is true.
Re: Great way to make a lot of XP and resources
I prefer changing clothes to swimsuit and back again. It takes 1 second and doesn't make your sim's hygiene go down. Either that or giving a high five over and over but that takes 2 sims.HordePrime wrote: For example, now that the Frebreeze options have gone, kicking over a Trashcan is theoretically the most efficient thing a single sim can do to get XP (7 per 2 seconds), so if you had the stamina to do it non-stop for a couple of hours, you'd have amassed a substantial amount. - Cleaning it up again afterwards is less efficient, but still good.

Re: Great way to make a lot of XP and resources
so what are still ways to get resources now that GM meanly took the main one toilet away ??? im still at level 3 and 4 for my island monuments.
would it have hurt to have kept the febreze spraying as at least an activity if not a resource generator too ?
no matter how they prod, i cant afford to do real money for this game ... and if push comes to shove ... ill quit the game first.

Re: Great way to make a lot of XP and resources
My first 2 are only at level 5 and the third one isn't even level 1 yet. No essence of wind from anything... I did get a gold bar yesterday, from Arthur practicing stretches ate the ballet barre, getting onyx a lot from sleeping activities. Got some bamboo from planting corn. Not much else, it really sucks. I don't want to waste my LP on it, I save those for important things, like birthday cakes. Since I wasn't at level 32, all my toilet sprays only got me a bazillion things for the first 2, but not the gold or magma embers. I probably have enough of the other stuff to finish the monuments, but it will take forever to get the rare things.
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

This is me at the moment:

219 Pickaxe, 146 Granite... But not one single Gold.
Rather frustrating!
