Do you plan your Sims names before creating your Sims?

I name my Sims after tv show characters and my ships (you know shipping, right? when you want two characters from tv shows or movies to be together), so yup, I plan their names before creating them and sometimes I plan their kids names. The ones with kids are the ones who have kids in the tv shows I like. Except for one xD.

Nice topic. I wanted to make a topic about who you name your characters after 'cause I've seen names like Angelina Jolie or Maria Sharapova on my neighbours' towns, but found this one

I have Emily, Hotch, Penelope and Derek from Criminal Minds, Dana and Fox Mulder from The X-Files, Data, Tasha, Picard and Beverly from Star Trek TNG, Mac and Stella from CSI NY, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, House and Cuddy from House, MD.

Planned! Half my sims are themed Mad Men and their relationships go along with the show. Any sims i make in the future will be mad men characters as well. I plan to make the proper enemies but don't have the time right now. He other half are some of my favorite athletes and random celebrities/singers that I thought would make for interesting couples.

Not planned and not themed. I guess the names evolve as I create them to match personality and physical type and possible occupation. ...Drew Strutt, being a case in point. Marriage can throw a spanner in the works. I would never have chosen Millie Miller!

my original sim is named after one of my game playing persona names: amnesia forgetsu
another one retsaM nogarD (Dragon Master) got invited to live with game named ruby nelson ... i didnt know how naming worked by the inviter, so he became retsaM nelson (what is a noslen master ?) their daughters leela (after turanga leela, one of my fave characters) and leigh for an l name.
other specific named ones are nogardine sue donim (no guarding)
and because she has tiger eyes tigercat feline.
plus the musician ima dejay.
others game named though for some reason i liked chelsea young for designer

tiger cat came right before osiris and all new sims have tiger eyes icluding the twins maria and brandon
named after one the mom parents brandy green invited by christine green and married.

the rock musicians rock on and rock steady.
the SPIRITual master : brandy scotch (has anyone caught the name/profession connection ?).
and IMA ROBOT brandy scotch's apprentice - forceful and peacefull negotiator (peaceful taught by brandy as IMA ROBOT was pure vigilante having learn all forms of fighting all over the galaxy*). PLUS IMA ROBOT is the first robot/android to have mastered brandy's astral projection very quickly (*has visited other planets in search of the best way to negotiate a more peaceful universe, much against her original learning - she wasnt programmed to be vigilante but became one after learnibg so many ways of that form).

Most of my sims have planned names and backstories before I create them, but sometimes I have used the random name if it was all right or I couldn't think of a name. I am currently planning a new sim but need to find the right surname for him, so I'll be doing a little research later today about names from the part of the world where he comes from.

I accept the names given but then wish afterwards I had not! I just want to get them into action in their new homes, but I love everyone's ideas on deciding names - so I will slow down next time I can add a sim

My new sim is named Said Samara. There are many cool Arabic surnames I could have used for him, but I also picked one that would go nicely with an existing lady that he will probably marry...
