I've been reading around the forum and the blog, enjoying all the tips and info that everyone shares.
As a player at level 23, finishing the swimming quest, I was specifically looking for info on hobbies and when they're unlocked so that I'd know if I'm doing all available hobbies right now.
I found Perturbee's blog entry about hobbies, and it gives great info, but is sorted by age of hobbyist rather than by what player level unlocks the hobby; also, a couple hobbies are missing from her list.
So, here's my beginning contribution; hopefully others will help add to it:
Available hobbies:
Fishing: unlocked during tutorial, by building the park. See the blog entry for details. An amusing/annoying addition to the blog info: sometimes your sim will get eaten by a giant fish. The fish will leap onto the dock, eat your sim, and then get back into the water. It will then proceed to leap out of the water, with a bubble every time; tap the bubble three times to get variable rewards (usually simoleons, but I've even gotten a few LP this way) and free your sim.
Cooking: unlocked during Let's Eat quest, available from level 7, but in the queue so must complete all previous quests first. I don't remember exactly where in the queue it was, but I'm almost positive it came before my toddler did. I've only completed one set of collectibles, so I don't know what is or isn't unlocked with subsequent completions, and I don't even remember if there was a specific reward besides simoleons/XP/LP for the first completed collection, but it's now telling me that my next collection is worth 5LP.
Fashion design: unlocked by building the career and hobby shop or by visiting a neighbor with a fashion design workstation. See the blog entry for details.
Spellcasting: unlocked by completing the Book of Spells quest. Extra details: the shortest action available is 2h30m, but the hobby levels up faster than most. If you start it immediately upon finishing the quest, you will have 7 days to earn a special owl on a perch reward item. I have not finished my 7 days or my first set of collectibles yet, so have no more info to share.
Diving: unlocked in the middle of the swimming quest, which is available from level 13, but not until you're done with the toddler quest. once you've completed the first "dive" action in the quest, you can set a sim to just diving while another finishes up the quest, which will improve your odds for finishing the collectibles in the 7-day limit to earn the hobby reward. I'm almost done with the quest, and my diver is at level 2, with a few collectibles already collected, so that's given me a bit of a jump-start on the collectibles. When I finish the quest tonight, my diver may already be level 3 (I hope!).
All info from here on out is based on research, but I've assembled some details:
Horse related hobbies: there are several of these. They include vaulting and trick riding; I think those are unlocked when you complete the Need for Steed quest, in the quest queue. There is also show jumping, which is unlocked with a separate quest, The Hidden Unicorn. I have now set all my available sims to cleaning up the stables some more to get more info on these hobbies.
Playhouse hobby: for toddlers only, unlocked with the In Da Clubhouse quest, in the queue right after show jumping. I remember seeing this described as a hobby somewhere, if I'm wrong please correct me!
Preparing for Preteens quest: next in the queue, unlocks karate and ballet for your pre-teens. They're both in the blog post.
At level 16, with the Weather Machines quest: You get snow- and ice-related hobbies. The pop-up for the unbuilt snow park lists snowboarding, figure skating, and hockey. This quest is part of the queue.
Woodworking: unlocked with building the Community Center, which is built during the Multi-story renovations quest. The quest is part of the queue. Additional info on the hobby are available at the blog post.
Teen Idol Hobby: your teen can write songs and perform them. Unlocked as part of the Road to Fame quest, in the queue.
Ghost Hunting: unlocked through the Ghost Hunting quest. The quest is in the queue. More details on the blog post.
Bird Feeding: unlocked through the Bird Feeding quest, in the queue. More details on the blog post.
Quilting: unlocked through the In Stitches quest, in the queue. More details on the blog post.
The Life Dreams and Legacies quest, last in the queue, opens access to several new hobbies. I don't know what they all are, but they include pinball, shell collecting, snorkelling, skill testing, and arcade gaming.
Did I miss any? Did I list anything as a hobby that isn't a full hobby? Is anything out of order? Does anyone have more details on any of the hobbies? Please share it!

Re: Hobbies: in order of unlocking (sorry for the mistake!
I quit updating the hobbies list/explanations, because the quests explain them enough.
I don't know what details are needed, maybe unlockable items, but other than that, rewards change, times change, and you never know what'll be changed by FM with the next update(s).
You can find the relatively up-to-date list of quests (and what hobby they unlock) at https://help.firemonkeys.com.au/hc/en-u ... ests-Goals

The toddler playhouse is a hobby. Completed collections award 6 LP.
Once you build the public beach, you get an additional fishing rod so you'll be able to have two Sims working on that collection. I don't think the giant fish can make it up to the pier, lol!
There are quite a few hobbies unique to the Public Beach, Carnival, Ice Ape Arcade and the Pet Park but I don't even know all of them. Perturbee lists the ones for the Public Beach and Ice Ape Arcade in her blog but none of them are available until you complete the Life Dreams and Legacies quest since they require orbs (or LP's).

I don't think snowboarding and hockey are hobbies unless that's changed.

Re: Hobbies: in order of unlocking (sorry for the mistake!
Thank you so much for this tip! I didn't realize that was there, though mine doesn't have a life stages option yet -- I haven't gotten to the clubhouse quest yet, in the middle of the unicorn quest (and just finished the salsa quest, am in the middle of collecting for the salsa hobby), so all hobbies currently available are for adult sims.mockingbird288z wrote:The hobbies currently in the game and their current rewards.
