It would be great if we had the option to buy a different house once our lot was cleared down to the grass, be able to keep special fences, fountains, and whatnots. :)
That point... When you demolish... That is specifically what I am asking -- demolish... Cause I never demolished anything before --but if demolishing gave me the option to build a PreMade house -- like starting over back at square one-- I would do this.

So SIMazing, you are telling me that if you choose demolish, you get the initial option again???

That would be great news. I'm assuming you can first remove the furniture, windows, doors etc. but is can happen, huh? Cause I wanna try it. Thanks.

All kidding aside, why wouldn't a person demolish and rebuild if they wanted a different house? It seems that would be easier, and possibly more cost-effective than trying to re-create a house from the grass up. The frequency of measly simoleons you get from the town view wouldn't stop me, if I wanted a different house at a particular site.
Okay I give... We are somehow not communicating. Thanks.

I think the confusing words are "demolish" and the space being removed. Can I try to clarify what you guys are saying?

- One buys and builds a whole lot, including a house, fence, sidewalk, etc.

- Once you build on a lot, even if you "removed" everything and only had an empty lot, you cannot buy a different house to build on it. It's just a blank slate to build from.

- Once you demolish a lot, then you will be given the option to build something new, provided you haven't hit your limit.

It would be great if we had the option to buy a different house once our lot was cleared down to the grass, be able to keep special fences, fountains, and whatnots. :)
Okay, I have done this, but not rebuilding a pre-made house. An example: I like the pond that is "cemented" into the ground in the Japanese Retreat and Player Built House. I also like the path and fence that comes with these pre-built houses. So, I have built that house more than once, then removed the rooms and built a different house around the pond. Another example: I like the Neo Tokyo House, but I don't care much for the bright path and fencing that comes with it. Ditto the graffiti-ed fencing around the Pro Skater Dream Pad. My solution? I've built these houses on mystery island, where the fencing and paths are all the same.

I wish we had our choice of fencing and pathways when building houses. Then one could choose the cool gothic fencing from the haunted house, the pond from the Japanese retreat, and the path from the designer house for any house we choose to build. :)

Please let me clarify, because I sense that you are upset with me, and I feel bad about that.

There are two ways to get a different house onto a site that already has a house on it. The first way is to use the demolish button in the game, which will eliminate the current house and bring the plot of land back to its undeveloped state. You can take the house down to the grass first and keep the old house's goodies in your inventory before you hit the demolish button. Then, you can choose to build any house from the menu (and pay the simoleons or LP to build it.) The second way is to remove everything on the site and put it into your inventory, then re-build room by room, again paying with more simoleons, and using pictures on this site to guide you, if you want to replicate one of the pre-made houses offered in the game. What you cannot do is take the house down to the grass, then generate a pre-made house, because the game recognizes that the plot has been developed and is already on the town timer, even if the plot is only grass.

Not upset... It's all good.
I think SIMazig actually answered my question a few posts ago. It's possible. And I think you just answered it as well, in this post. You were just giving me a lot of other information. I think I now understand that if I choose demolish button I WILL regain the option to put a purchased house on a site. That is all I was wanting to know. That was my question and yes, it got quite confusing there for a bit... I admit frustration which is prolly what you sensed. I felt you were not understanding what I was asking and for some reason I could not make it clear. There was a lot of information coming at me not really having anything to do with my question. But I think I got it now and I'm pleased that it is going to be possible. Thank you for your help and no worries. I'm actually pretty easy....we just got crossed somewhere but like I said... It's all good, no worries! :P

Kat, i have to say, the only time I use the demolish button is if the house that's already there is one i don't care much for and I only built it to increase town value (sanctuary and sci-fi shuttle, for example). Otherwise, I remove everything down to the grass and rebuild from scratch, keeping the town timer intact. You are more than welcome to check me out as a neighbor on game center, I am Lishws720, and I would love to see your Simworld, too!

When I started I did not truly understand TV and I built the cheapest houses I could to keep TV low. Now I wish I had the LOCATION available. I'd like to demolish a Sanctuary and plunk down a Scandinavian house. I didn't think I could but now I know I can. Yay!

Sending GC request.

Kat, I am a complete derp! I just found out we are already neighbors! Sorry I didn't connect your forum name here with your GC name. I just visited your town and my Lucas (teacher by day, movie buff and Sim Cinema owner by night) met quite a few of your Sims! I will return in the morning so I can check out your world in the daylight. Have a good night!
