Auto-returning Sim from neighbor town

I encountered this around 2 weeks back during halloween event, but kept forgetting to post it up:

So I had a pre-teen who is at neighbor town for more than 24 hours and so when I went to the neighbor's house that she's in, she started walking out of the house automatically. Then I saw the Globe return button is enabled and thinking that tapping would speed up in getting back to my own town, I tap it and to my HORROR my pre-teen never return to my town.

In Sim tracker, she is still at my neighbor town, but if I were to tap her to go my neighbor town, the game will crash! And the only way out is to reset and download my last game save. And thus I lost 1 day of progress where I have earned almost 100LPs and level up my ghost hunter from level 6 to mid level 7...

So as a word of precaution to fellow players, if your Sim is auto-returning from neighbor town, just wait and let them exit entirely on their own, regardless of whether the Globe-return button is enabled or not.

I always do this all the time and fortunately my babies managed to get home safely.

This is definitely a bug on your part.

Most of the time whenever my Sim is auto-returning, the globe return button is disabled. But for the fateful time, it was enabled and thus attracted me to tap it...

Forgive my n00b question here, but how do you get your sims in your town to make any progress while another sim is visiting a neighbor? I can only play the visiting sim out of town until they return, so I must set all my other sims to long term tasks (for however long I plan to play in the neighbor's town). So what have I missed??

I haven't bothered with the neighbor goals at all. Too much effort with little reward and massive potential for glitches. I usually just go sightseeing and then return home.

I can only play the visiting sim out of town until they return, so I must set all my other sims to long term tasks (for however long I plan to play in the neighbor's town). So what have I missed??

When your sim is away visiting, click on the green globe with an arrow in the centre to return to your own town. Your away sim will continue with the task and appear right at the top of your sim tracker so you can keep an eye on when the task will finish.

I don't like those long goals, because I cannot save while my sim is busy in a neighbours town. In case something like this happens, I would lose my progress. So my journey sims usually start long tasks when I cannot play due to my real life schedule

Nevertheless thank you for this hint, it's good to know! It would be hard if I would have to repeat a 24 hours goal!

If I click that, it makes my sim go home. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though. Currently I have a sim practicing diving because I really want to unlock the diving boards for at home, and I'm just doing the 4 minute practice, but I have a goal to use the telescope in a neighbors' town. When I am ready to do that task, I will try it again. Hopefully it'll work because I'd rather be able to be productive with my other sims while one sim is doing something like watching a movie marathon

Thanks for explaining that to me. It might be great if it'll work for me--but on the other hand, perhaps it's safer for me to do it the way I have bee so far. It sounds like people can run into trouble with having a sim out of town while actively playing their own town.

Tap the globe when your sim has started his task. Then he'll remain, while you go back to your town

As long as my sim does the shorter tasks, I go back and play. It wouldn't be too hard to lose progress of a few hours. But it would be hard to lose the progress for a time limited challenge, or many LPs.
