Adoption Q (regarding levels and adding non-adopted Sims)

Post by Hufflepuff Karen »

I couldn't figure out how to bump my old adoption question thread so people would notice it, so I started a new thread.
Undead_Teri wrote:Oh, and adopting also bypasses the extra 100LP (or whatever it is) charge for being over your level's sim limit. For now, anyway.
I am thinking of adopting a teen and a pre-teen because I really want more Sims and I'm tired of waiting, but I don't want to spend all those extra LP to bypass my current limit.

I am at level 35 (35%). I have 19 Sims and it would cost 70 LP to add a regular Sim right now. My next Sim unlocks at level 36 (probably a week away). I really want a baby / toddler for Oliver & Alicia, but if I adopt two Sims now, will I have to wait until level 40? If I am allowed to add a new Sim every other level, if I adopt two now, that would be my level 36 and my level 38 Sim, right? So it would be level 40 until I can have a baby or make a new adult? Has anybody adopted outside of the level limit yet?

I have another $15 app card to spend - my mother in law gave me my birthday card 6 months late, when I went to my sister in law's birthday BBQ last week :) I never buy apps, so I used the first app card I got for SFP to buy the fish tanks, clothing packs, adopted Arthur, and bought a batch of LPs. If I adopt 2 kids, that leaves me $5 to buy either LP, SP or Simoleons (at my level I can get $555,000, 40 LP or 52 SP for $5). This sign thing is taking forever, was thinking of trying the two-teen thing to make it go faster and if I bought some extra LP, I could use them to make the singing part go faster. Three hours to find out you got another duplicate singing note makes me mad!
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

I think that if you adopt two teens you will not be able to add your toddler for free until later. But if you hobby a lot, you may end up feeling the toddler is worth the LP. I'm only at level 46, but I went ahead and added all my Sims using LP's. An adult Sim adds a lot to our daily hobby LP's, and so does the teen if they do, say, diving.

Never mind - I answered my own question. After I saw the teens taking selfies on another thread, I thought I have GOT to get at least one more teen. So I adopted one - then I checked my Sim count - it had changed from next Sim available at level 36 to next Sim available at level 38. Big sigh... will have a long wait for Oliver's baby. Went ahead and adopted my pre-teen, too, and now it says next Sim available at level 40 :( Still, I only want one more toddler, so I can wait. After that, I can wait long enough to add more adults to the empty houses. My haunted house will remain empty, as will my beach house, my designer house, my starter house, my house next to the fire station... ug, it's like the town is full of abandoned houses!

Thank you - I was wondering the exact same thing today as well. I wanted to adopt a toddler also.

Oh I wish! Only adoption options so far are teen and pre-teen :( If they made adopting toddlers an option they might get some real money out of me! Not just when I happen to have a gift card! Poor Molly, no playmate until Oliver and Alicia can have a baby. On the other hand, I am finding out that the two pre-teens and the two teens have a lot of funny interactions (esp. the teens, since one of them is already my teen idol and when I introduced her to my new teen, I got the option for him to ask for her autograph, beg for a picture, or swoon??) Meanwhile, my two pre-teens are jumping on the beds together and screaming and laughing. It's cute now, but if I have them do it too much, it will get annoying!

I was wondering other peoples ratio of adults to kids? I have 4 teens, 1 preteen and 12 adults. (On level 28) Im thinking of deleting 1 or 2 adults to make room for a toddler (which I dont have) as well as another preteen so I would have2. Any suggestions? Especially considering all of the items that come with pre built houses.

Somebody started a thread on that. I hope this link works - never tried to link a thread before.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=455

My ratios changed today, when I adopted a teen and a pre-teen, so now I have 21 Sims - 1 Toddler, 2 Pre-Teens, 2 Teens and 16 Adults. I think it's stupid that the max is 31 Sims, there are at least 30 lots between Town and Mystery Island - I can't believe they wanted us to have a bunch of empty houses or houses only occupied by 1 person. That just defeats the purpose of meeting goals - having people get married and have kids and whatnot.

I can't believe that are going to leave us with these empty houses either. What's the point? I haven't even started to build on the island. I should have taken advantage of that baby glitch but I cost 78 LP for every one and I just didn't have that...

I have two teens who do music most of the time. Everytime the finish i get 3 LP. That's about the most useful thing I've found for them to do. I have 3 preteens and 4 toddlers. I have 5 people left and I'm thinking a lot about how that is going to be played. So I have 16 adults and 9 kids. I'm at level 36.

Karen I think you should ask for more iTunes cards for Christmas-- if that's what you celebrate-- and get your babies and toddlers. Oliver and Alicia vote for it. *grins*

Opps ha, that's what I meant I was going to add two pre-teens.

This is the closest thing I could find to what I need help with. I had a couple make a baby, and then age him into a teenager. I had him move in with his girlfriend's family, and then they adopted him. I'm trying to have a family adopt the girlfriend-turned-sister, but it doesn't show up in my interactions. How can I get them to adopt her?
