why are my Sims not advancing anymore in their hobbies?

Once I reach level 2 or 3, I can't find any more ghosts or fish or medals or wood crafts, etc. I've been at it for over a week but nothing is happening. Usually I believe that persistence pays off but this time I'm stumped.

As you go up each level it takes longer to get to the next level. Also many of the ghosts, medals , fish etc can only be found at a certain level, so you may have found all possible fish for levels 1-3 and no new ones are available to level 5 , for example. I find it works much better to do the 4 minute intervals as much as possible. The good thing is once you get to level six and have found all medals/fish/fashions etched the first time, it goes much, much faster each subsequent time.

It also helps if you have more than one Sim working the hobby. Fishing is bad, because only one at a time can fish, but I have two that I switch out and that seems to help each of them earn a little bit higher percentage of completion.

I had 3 woodworkers, mostly working at the community center simultaneously, 3 ice skaters and originally 3 ghost hunters. I need to add a fashion designer because I only have one at level 4 and it seems she's only going up 1% every 4 tries. That means she has to do 400 tries to level up?? Diving is almost as bad, but if I have all 4 diving boards going at the pool, they each seem to get a whole 1% with each attempt. Still, that's 100 dives for all 4 of them, ugh, only doing that until I get the diving boards!

They make more money and XP doing woodworking and if I have 4 of them going at their own workbench, they can finish the grid in 30 - 40 minutes and get 3LP to boot!

FAshion designing and Fishing are the absolute worst! They take FOREVER. But yes, if you can do the 4 minute intervals to give them more chances and to level up faster. Eventually you'll get there

Skating was bad and diving.... My little Sim is going to drown before he unlocks those boards. I agree though Fashion and Fishing are bad as well. I'm not sure why I'm still bothering with fishing. I guess it's the principle of the thing. I'm starting to work in last level on Fasion which I assume will take months! Almost as much fun as gathering resources. Ugh!

It does help tho having more then one work on em. Right now I have a house set up just for woodworking and fashion.

I don't quite understand what you mean by not finding ghosts or fish. Even if you find the same items more than once, your hobby progress should still go up.

I know this is reported somewhere on another thread, because that is where I learned it. As I understand it, the trick is to soldier on at four minute intervals (or 3.5 for ghost hunting) and get ONE Sim to the top of any hobby you really want to do. Once you get one Sim to the top, which is a miserable process, the hobby becomes pretty easy even if all the other Sims doing the hobby are at the bottom. In fact, you end up with bonuses as the others level up, so I often change Sims around while keeping one at level six. Filling the grid and collecting LP's becomes much less frustrating, and much more lucrative.

Except fishing. I have one level 6 fishersim, and I don't want to give up that level, as it was SO hard to achieve. Yet fishing is, for me, a waste of time. So my fishersim does lots of quests and planting, and very little fishing.

Sometime when you are doing something else, just keep a Sim diving every 4 minutes. You'll get there, and it will be worth it!

You don't need to keep a Sim at level 6. Once one of them has achieved the highest level and collected all the rewards/prizes it is open to all of them forever.

Actually, I would prefer to keep 1 Sim at level 6 for each hobby, especially diving, fishing and fashion design, just in case the developers did another similar thing like level 8 ghost hunter...
