I have successfully completed three full rounds of the music hobby and never once gotten a drop from music. The only and I repeat only two ways I have gotten drops have been through mystery boxes and feeding my fish. And I'm talking practically around the clock play. This is torture.
Random drops are very rare. I get most from the wardrobe except the TV cameo thing. Though I was lucky this week and had one drop when my teen changed in to his swimsuit.
I have 2 teens slaving on the music hobby and it is slow going, due to lots of duplicates and the long time the actions take.
Just going to build some other houses first and then decide if I'm going to spend lps on completing the sign. There is so much else I can do with those lps. Decisions, decisions...

Regarding a separate area for active players, I think that will not work. Tips get posted all over the Internet and an account on a forum is made in seconds. And when an account is made how to decide if someone is an active player?

You're right. Wishful thinking.

Ok, I just went in to my game and got a pop-up saying the sign has to be level 25 to get the teen mansion!! I thought it had to be level 3? Oh well, if that's true it'll be another loooooong wait trying to save LPs for the sign and island too. I was excited about getting that one cause I missed out on the haunted house which I REALLY wanted lol.

The only sure way to get them is by doing the music writing hobby. Completing the collection gives you one of each resource.

You need game level 25 or higher to be able to start the Sim Town sign. There are only three levels of the sign.

Thank goodness! I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that!!! I am grinding out music with my two teen idols every day, plus changing clothes with several people at night when I'm not at work. Still need almost 80 LP if I wanted to complete it that way... this is really slow going.
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

Ok. That's a relief. I took a pic of it when I saw it so I could go back and look just to be sure I didn't read it wrong lol, but I just looked and the way it's worded does seem like the sign has to be 25. The only thing that lets you know it's the level your on is it's got level 25+ instead of just 25. But I just didn't think about it, all I thought about was having to wait forever to get the mansion!

I'm not even into getting the resources yet, but I did want to chime in on the private forum matter... I am a part of another forum that has a "Verified" section, but the moderators did have to manually verify everyone. One way we could do this here would be to have a board set apart that you only grant access to certain people, or give out a password for that forum, and have the moderators each make a facebook and connect their FB or GC accounts and then add players to see that they're on whatever level with whatever town worth, etc? Just a thought. Sorry if that's too much threadjacking!

This forum is supposed to be easy accessible. I could implement a restricted new user area, but adding manual verification simply adds more work than deleting and banning spammers. (That aside from the original reason to have a protected subforum).

Password protected subfora is a bad idea for this forum, now people can read the whole forum without the need to register. I can't think of anything that needs to be shielded from the public eye, not even from FM/EA. Consider the amount of time it takes to browse through the forum to search for potential exploits. I do know that FM keeps an eye on Facebook and even there they can't possibly see everything that's being discussed about the game. They do get the exploit information from FB and Youtube, but mostly from those who publicly post exploits on the game page or make and promote videos about it. I do know they scan my public FB posts, Nina even replied to one in the past.

FB/GC in-game verification is completely over the top and impossible to actually do. The visible list of neighbours is limited to 100 (I have 1200 people on GC and FB combined). This comes close to those FB groups with a minimal level requirement and that's not the purpose of this forum.

If spam does become a big problem, I will look into other counter-measures.

Exploits are few and far in between and once the word is out, it'll be all over FB (and the rest of the internet), so it doesn't really matter how shielded we make a subforum.
