I have the teen idol, mansion and sign. But I just don't get it.. I think I am missing something with this teen idol. What 's his/her purpose. I tried to let my 2nd teen play the drums and it said it can only be one teen idol. Just don't understand.

Arcadia, someone on a French site figured out that if you (1) set your Teen Idol to writing a song, and (2) send a second teen to a neighbor's house to do the same, then you can bring the second teen back to your town and he/she will be able to "write songs" with your first teen. When in the neighbor's town, you WILL get a warning that starting the second teen on the hobby may lose the progress your first teen has made, but that's not true. (However, that WOULD happen if you started your second teen on the hobby in your OWN town, so don't do that.)

I currently have 3 teens all in a band together in my own town, and am thinking of getting a 4th.

Yup, going to the neighbor's town did it for me - Dora wasn't singing, though, she was playing the electric guitar - just make sure your first teen is doing one of the longer music tasks, so the new teen can do a shorter one and come back before the first teen is done with their song. I sent Cedric to a neighbor's town just long enough to play a keyboard (30 minutes on a 3 star instrument). I got the warning, but clicked OK - he started playing the keyboard and when he finished, I sent him home. He went over to Dora's house (where she was still playing guitar) and he started banging on the drums. She finished and went on to singing, he finished and started on some other instrument. Now the two of them regularly practice together in Cedric's music room, because I'm trying to finish the sign! And I don't know about the rest of you, but when they are both singing, it's awful - might be better if they were both girls or both boys, but I try not to make them sing together - playing the instruments together is OK, but the singing is ear-grating :)

I could adopt 2 more teens, but then that means waiting until level 44 for Oliver's baby and I've already got to wait to level 40 (I'm only on 36).
I think, therefore, I Sim! (Or I did before they told me to "harvest" them)

I don't find it that hard to complete the gird. Emily goes to school and then when she gets home, she does some homework and then goes to work on music until bedtime. I tend to keep her home from school on weekends though, because it's fun to play the preteens and teens on weekends. Anyways, Emily has had to do some key goals such as waste an entire day on the couch, but she has already filled the grid three times since unlocking the sign (so that's 4 times in total). I'm going to send her on tour this weekend--I meant to do it earlier, but I got caught up in my favourite PC game since there was an expansion pack released last week  Anyways, Emily will soon be visiting all of my friends' towns that have stadiums or private performance venues ;) Hopefully she'll even have an opportunity to jam with some other teen idols in those towns!

She's gonna laze around in her mansion on mystery island with her brother and another teen who may or may not become her boyfriend lol. She is currently forcing her brother and other teen to listen to her practice her music while they do their school work ;) Oh and she is already quite the diva. She doesn't like anything too close to the kitchen door, refuses to walk through. I had to move the fridge to the other side of the kitchen and couldn't place anything else beside it, the other teens had no problem with it haha
Lol that's hilarious! :D

Maybe Emily is more talented than my teen  . My poor girl sings over and over again and keeps hitting the same notes. Perhaps she's a one-hit-wonder

3 days with 2 teens and still the grid is not complete, still need 1 singing note
So pretty much fed up with it.
The second teen is a temporary one, just visiting and will leave once the sign is complete.

Edited to add: and he will finally go to high school as he is now only busy with music making
That's what kept happening to me. So frustrating. And for some reason, my teens breeze through completing the grid for ice skating. I may send her back to school and make her a teen idol again once I reach the level of LPs I want.

I enjoy having her be a teen idol 8-) Sure, many of my sims work as slaves, but I play them as well. They do not exist merely to earn money and LP for me, but to be little characters with detailed little lives ;)
Don't have my mansion yet...grrr... I don't know if I will keep either of them in the music business after the sign gets built. Dora was doing ice skating and diving before this came up - Cedric hasn't done anything else, I adopted him to send him to the neighbors to get another Teen Idol. They don't really have a story line yet, but all of my other little guys do. I was more interested in Dora doing well in school and then becoming something successful or going off to college or something. But they are stuck forever in teen-dom, at least for now. Maybe they'll be a Teen Idol duo with a one-hit-wonder and fade into oblivion, playing little lounges and coffee shops around town to earn pocket money while they do some serious hobbying - I could make them an Olympic Ice Dancing team! They can always fool around with their music, but I won't be doing it to earn LP, that's for sure - it takes too darn long to finish the grid. Woodworking is the easiest, with 4 of them going I can earn 3 LP every few hours when I'm not at work. Ice Skating is pretty good, too - I have 3 skaters now, when I have time to do the warm ups, we can earn 3 LP every couple of hours there, too. I think I need to make my own CC with 4 wood working benches and a frozen pool, so they can all be in one place (that means I need to buy a weather machine!)

About half of my little people have back stories, still working on the others - some of them were just added because I needed to add a Sim, even though I carefully named them and whatnot. As they started doing things, I had to work out how they got there and why they wanted to do that job or that hobby. Rolanda actually has the most "story" because of the recent Homeless Challenge, but I'm working on the others. Since they all have Harry Potter tie-in names, trying to make them fit in a Muggle world with a realistic Muggle story is just necessary!
You just inspired me Karen. I would love to build a little lounge with the music set. That would make me want to keep teen idols if they could play concerts. It would be cool if we could have stage.

You're storylines are so great!

I love your Sims back stories Karen. You're great withe the story writing

As for Teen Idols. I'm still working on the sign so I need them. I have two. Once the mansion is unlocked I'm not sure. They can dive and still play music so I assume they can skate and still play music too. It would be nice to have a whole band but they teens are so... Useless. I don't want to waste my people on three more.
That's my problem too. I want a band. But I can't afford more than 2 teens right now. I wish teens could do it bit more so I could justify having more.

I have 4 teen idols and have left them to jam to their hearts' content! I find I get too confused when I switch hobbies around, so they all have their permanent area of expertise. ;) I also find they fill in the hobby card pretty quickly, so I keep them all at the teen idol mansion. I haven't moved any of them in there yet, as I'm unsure about who, but I did move in a female butler. Haha, needed an adult to clean the pool.
